We got to Fort Lauderdale around 9 a.m. that morning. Let me tell you, it was sooooo cold that morning. I was stressing realizing that I only packed one pair of pants and the rest were all shorts. Yikes, I was going to freeze.

We headed to the boat and checked in and the first thing they do is feed you. This should be your first indication that I gained weight on the cruise... yep 5 lbs. But the food was so good and so plentiful, it was hard to not indulge. :)

The first day we just hung around the boat and just got things in order for the next few days. We booked our shore excursions and rented Damon's tux and of course ATE. We met our dinner buddies that night... Jared & Katie Drummond. We had a fabulous first meal and really enjoyed talking with them and laughing.

The next day was our day in Key West, Florida. We were supposed to do a thrill boat ride, but it was cancelled due to high winds... which was ok by me, I really wanted to just hang around the town. So we wandered the shops and enjoyed a leisure morning in Key West. Then we headed back to the boat and got in the hot tub. It was still cold outside, but the hot tub was super hot. Then we just sat by the pool for a couple hours. It wasn't as cold outside, I put my towel over my legs to stay warm, but I also didn't realize that the sun was still bright, so needless to say, I got sunburned. oops.

That night began the first in a series of card games with Jared, Katie, Matt & Amy. We had so much fun and laughed so hard. It was a fabulous way to end the day and every day for the rest of the cruise.

Saturday we docked in Cozumel, Mexico. Damon and I headed out to a place called Adventure Park. We went rock climbing (which is not as easy as Kennedi makes it look), ziplining and rapelling. We both had a lot of fun. We also got to go snorkeling, which was amazing. The guides we went with brough along fish food, so the fish were swimming right in front of our faces. It was so incredible. I just wish I would have brought an underwater camera. bummer!

Sunday was our day at sea. It was pretty relaxing. We took some dance lessons, sat in the hot tub and just enjoyed ourselves. The boat got pretty rocky at night and the swimming pool turned into a wave pool that was splashign waves on the deck like 20 feet high. We sat out there and watched it and laughed forever. I guess we are easliy amused.

Monday our cruise ended...we were sad as we had such a good time, but were excited to get home and see our kiddos. Thanks so much mom and dad for coming to AZ and watching them... we couldn't have done it without you. :)

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_465YskeFQ6Q/SVphT4VempI/AAAAAAAAAX0/hNw-bMY2o68/s320/churchsign%5B2%5D.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5285644106840578706" />

Christmas is almost here!

I am so excited for Christmas this year. Not only do we have a new addition to our family, but my parents will be flying to Arizona to spend Christmas with us here. The whole family is counting down the days.

Christmas at our house started on Thanksgiving Day. Damon decided that while I was cooking my first Thanksgiving Dinner (which turned out pretty ok, might I add) that he would put up some lights around the house. Now granted, I thought he meant one or two strings of lights... but slowly I was worried we might become the Griswolds of the neighborhood. Everyday for about a week, he would go out and put just one more thing up. I am getting a little concerned for our electricity bill in December. LOL. But actually, it turned out great, it isn't too much (in fact when i took the pics for the blog, I almost think we need more LOL) and it's so fun to see our lights come on every night lighting up the front of our house. The kids love it too. I told Damon he better enjoy it this year, because we will more than likely be back in Utah next Christmas and it will be a lot colder to hang lights then. Brrrrr.... ;)

We had our Ward Christmas Party on the 13th. Damon and I were called to activities committee again. For those of you who don't know, we headed up the committee when we lived in West Jordan, so we are no strangers to planning big events. We enjoy being part of the committee, even if it is stressful. :) Just to see everyone happy at a party we helped create is fabulous. Of course Santa dropped by so the kids got to sit on his lap and tell him what they wanted. Kennedi told him she wanted the Wii Dance Mat, Spencer wanted a bike and Sydney... well as you can see she just pulled on his beard. (I guess trying to see if he was real or not already, boy are we in trouble?!?!?) :)
Now we are in the process of making sure the house if ready for Grandma and Grandpa. The tree is up, the presents are wrapped all that is left to do is a little bit of cleaning and we are ready for the holiday.

We hope you are all having a wonderful holiday season with your loved ones. We will update you after the holiday and let you know how it all goes.

Love to all! And Merry Christmas!

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5282479426045678290" style="DISPLAY: block; Having 3 kids who want your attention and going back to work full time can do that to you. So I thought I would take this sacred 15 minutes I have when Sydney is sleeping and I don't have a phone call with a student, Spencer is at the babysitters and Kennedi is at school to tell you about our trip to Australia.

Damon had to go to Australia for work and just it also happened to be at the time his brother Ben was getting married. The family wasn't originally going to go, but at last minute, I mean like 3 weeks before we left, I decided I wanted to go and take the kids. So we frantically booked flights, had to get Sydney's passport expedited (holy cow that costs a fortune) and added a couple days to the end of my maternity leave and then it was planned.

So, the kids and me left on October 24 (Damon was already there for work) to brave the 14 hour flight alone. This was the only part of the trip I was dreading with every bone in my body. Me and 3 kids ages 7, 2 & 2 months on a plane for 14 hours and nowhere to go. Getting through security was a bit crazy between the stroller, 3 backpacks, 3 kids and blankets. I had to set Sydney down, but where.... oh, I can set her in the security screening buckets... low and behold she fit in it and it was even big for her. So of course I had to take a photo. We ran to our gate, thank goodness a helpful flight attendant was there. She held Kennedi's hand as I pushed the stroller and had Spencer literaly tied to the stroller with a kid leash. The flight to San Francisco was horrible. The kids were crazy, they were tired and fighting and I thought I was going to pull my hair out. Then we landed and had to run to the international gate. We made it there just in time to hear them paging us overhead. They for some reason couldn't find my visa. It took 15 minutes of explaining that my name was Michelle Baker and that the name change was in the back of my passport before it was finally ok. Luckily the guy felt bad for us and put us in Economy plus, a little more leg room would help especially since they didn't have any wall bassinets and I had to use a floor one for Syndey.

Finally we were on the plane. Luckily because it was so late and the kids were so tired, they pretty much fell asleep about an hour after we took off. But I couldn't sleep. I was too worried if Spencer was going to fall off the chair or wake up freaking out. He isn't the best sleeper in the world. I was also stressed that if I fell asleep and the kids woke up they would forget that Sydney was on the floor and step on her. My worry came true, I had this strong impression to pick Sydney up immediately, I didn't know why as she was sound asleep, and as soon as I did about 3 minutes later, Spencer fell straight on the bassinet. He would have smashed her. I ended up letting Spencer sleep on the floor, Kennedi got the 3 seats next to me and I held Sydney the rest of the way. I was so thankful to be in Austrlia, I made it through the flight, but let me tell you this, NEVER AGAIN!!! :) LOL

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_465YskeFQ6Q/ST7GXCwdp2I/AAAAAAAAAW4/mAxq3VWdTy8/s320/IMG_3607.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5277873912504231778" />
Australia was great. This was the first time we actually stayed in one place and everyone came to us. We had booked a hotel that was central to everyone in hopes that this would allow everyone to come to us and it worked. We had someone there everyday visiting. It was fabulous. Our hotel was right on the water and so we could walk to the beach. We didn't do must touristy stuff this time, other than going into the city one day on the train, taking a boat ride to Manly beach, going to the Wiggles play center and lots of the beach. Damon had to work while we were there and we mostly wanted to see family, which is what we did and it was wonderful.<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_465YskeFQ6Q/ST7F54M8fPI/AAAAAAAAAWw/pjItSk_ge0g/s320/IMG_3412.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5277873411454696690" />

As I said earlier, Ben did get married while we were there. So we got to go to the temple with them and see them sealed. It was amazing. Then they had their reception on a boat in the Sydney harbor. It reminded Damon and I of the time we got engaged. Damon proposed on a Sydney Harbor Cruise, so it was pretty special to do that again.

So, all in all, we had a fabulous time. We did have issues getting home and got stuck in San Francisco... but it all worked out in the end and I am so glad that we got the chance to go visit our Australian family again. We love you guys!!!

Wow, what a crazy 5 1/2 weeks we have had here at the Baker household. After the joy of bringing home Sydney, things quickly turned hectic and insane. Exactly one week after entering the hospital to have Sydney, I ended up back in the hospital with a breast infection. I had to be on IV antibiotics for 48 hours. It was very painful and very emotional to be away from my newborn little one for 3 days. On top of that, our little Spencer had to have his tonsils out while I was still in the hospital. Luckily I was released a few hours after his surgery and I was able to go visit him. He was miserable... it was so sad to see him that way. I just had to keep telling myself that it was for the best. Over the last few months his tonsils were so bad that he was breathing at night and was barely eating. He lost several pounds and was not doing well. Now that has all changed. He did have a really hard couple of weeks after the surgery, but now he is doing great. He is back to his old self. Thank goodness.

The next big event was the change of our family dynamics. In a previous post you read that Damon's sister Lozz was here and was staying with us for a year. But unfortunately, due to some medical conditions and extreme headaches that she was having, she decided to go home after only being here for 5 weeks. We were sad to see her go, but she had to make the decision that was right for her. So hopefully, she will do much better in Australia. Now, unfortunately, I am back to the drawing board on who will help me with the kids while I work... but time will tell on that one, and I am trying not to worry about it until it becomes an issue... I guess I am hoping that it won't, but we will see.

We also went to Utah to visit my family, which I always love. Grandma Birthday got to see Sydney and we got to show her off to other friends and family there. We really miss Utah... we are hoping that we will get back soon! We will see how the whole houses situation goes.

Sydney is doing ok, she is just as beatiful as could be, however, we found that she hasn't been gainig weight. It seems that my mild is not giving her the calories she needs to thrive... so it looks like I will be back to the formula routine. I am ok with it this time. For those of you who remember, I really had a hard time when Spencer wouldn't drink at all... but this time I have come to terms that this is just the way it has to be. The bottom line is I want her to be healthy and grow normally and if formula is the way for that to happen, then so be it.

Now we are planning our next adventure which I will update you all on when we return. I hope you enjoy the new pics and remember, if you have a blog and we don't know about it, please let us know what the address is.

Sydney Grace Baker

Sydney Grace Baker - Finally Here!!!!

Friday 8/29/08...
So the story goes like this... it was coming down to the final few weeks of my pregnancy and I was getting huge and miserable. I love being pregnant, but I gotta tell you those last few weeks are a pain in the butt! LOL So if that wasn't bad enough, I found out that Spencer had to have his tonsils and his adenoids removed asap. The date they had scheduled was September 10th, the day before my due date. Stress and panic started to set in. I asked my dr to be induce on Friday September 5 (Mom and Dad were already here at that point)... but unfortunately the hospital was fun until Tuesday September 9. I cried and cried... what was I going to do. I didn't want to not be there for Spencer's surgery and I didn't want to chance Damon missing the birth. So after a long few days of trying to figure out what we could do, we decided we had to reschedule Spencer's surgery for the next week and go ahead with the induction on Tuesday.

Monday 9/8/08...
I called the hospital to make sure I didn't need to know anything for the induction the next morning. They said the only thing I needed to know was that I was on hold... meaning I probably wouldn't be induced on Tuesday... I was upset. But they told me to call back in the morning to find out for sure. So, I did...

Tuesday 9/9/08...
I woke up at 5:30 a.m. to call the hospital... yep, it was confirmed... I was on hold. I just had to wait for them to call me and they told me it would possibly be tomorrow before I would hear. So, instead of driving myself crazy Mom, Dad, Lozza, Spencer and I went to lunch and to the 99 cent store to kill time. But to my surprise and excitement, the hospital called and told me to be there at 2:30 p.m., they had a bed open for me.

2:30 p.m. - I arrived at the hospital. I was all of the sudden quite a bit nervous. I was so consumed with if I was going to have her before Spencer's surgery that I really hadn't thought about the fact that I was going to have to give birth and go through the pain. It was all settling in. The nurses checked my vitals and waited for the doctors orders to start the pitocin drip.

3:40 p.m. - The nurse started my pitocin and told me she would be upping my dosage every 20 minutes until I started to get into good labor. At that point, I was dialated to a 4 and 50% effaced, so I still had a ways to go.

5:00 p.m. - Still nothing happening... little contractions, but nothing to get excited over. I was worried this was going to take forever, but Mom was convinced, she would be here much sooner than I thought she would.

5:30 p.m. - My contractions are finally kicking in... actually pretty intensely when they finally hit.

6:10 p.m. - Yes, I need an epidural. These are some of the hardest contractions I have ever felt with all 3 pregnancies. I am in utter pain.

6:30 p.m - The anesthesiologist gets there and gives me the epidural... it takes a bit longer because everytime I have a contraction, they are so strong that he has to wait for me to be done with it so he can proceeed. He gets the loading dose in tells me that in 10 minutes my contractions should be lighter and shorter.

6:45 p.m. - The nurse checks me and I am 100% ready to go. She gets the doctor in as quickly as she can. The anesthesiologist comes in to give me the real pain killer but it's too late, I am already in birthing position and so I only have enough medicine to take the edge off... so I start freaking out that it's going to hurt... but this fear only lasts a minute as I start to push and that is all I can think about.

6:53 p.m. - I have pushed Sydney's head out... but the doctor tells me to stop. The cord is wrapped so tightly around her neck that she has to cut it off before I can continue to push. I push two more times and finally out comes my little girl. I was completely stressed though because as they placed her on my chest, she was so blue... the cord had been so tight, that it took her longer to start breathing than I remember it taking with Spencer and Kennedi. I kept asking "Is she ok??"... and then finally a little cry from across the room and all was well! She was here, I was fine and we were all happy!

Sydney Grace Baker
Born: September 9, 2008
Weight: 9 lbs. 2 oz
Lenghth: 19.5 inches
WELCOME TO THE WORLD LITTLE GIRL!

Auntie Lozza comes to America to stay!

I forgot to mention one very important addition to our family... no Sydney isn't here yet, but on August 21st we went to pick up Lauren (or Auntie Lozza) from the airport. She has decided to come and live with us for a year. We are soooo excited to have her here. She has been a great addition to our family so far. The kids love having her here and she has been a lot of help to be as well. She has already made a friend in the neighborhood and has gone out with her a couple times. It's nice to know that she has some things to do as I know it's hard to be away from home for so long. I think she likes Arizona, however, she has said it is hotter than Australia... crazy. But, all in all, it will be great to have her here with us for so long. Heather threw me a baby shower a couple Saturday's ago and I thought I would share some fun pics of the party with you. It was a lot of fun. We played games, ate good food and laughed a lot. I got some really cute outfits for Sydney as well, thanks girls! :) I am really hoping the next update will be to tell you all that Syndey is finally here.

So... I have to share the funniest story with you. Last week we went to the hospital to get a tour of the labor & delivery rooms and see where to check in, etc. We decided to bring the kids with us so they could see where Sydney would be born as well. The rooms and the hospital are very nice by the way and I am very excited to go there. Isn't that funny, I think this is the only time that people are "excited" to go to the hospital! ;)
At the end of the tour, the guide asked if anyone had any questions. My little sweet Kennedi raised her hand and very innocently asked.... "So, when are we going to do this?". The whole room just cracked up. I guess in her mind she was thinking, we have been talking about Sydney for the last 8.5 months and now we are here at the hospital, why aren't we just going to stay and get her out. It was too cute! Then even to add to that, the next room we went to see, the post-partum room... Spencer kept trying to get me to lay on the bed and stay. I guess the bottom line is the kids are just as excited as we are to get her here. SO.... I hope I will be able to post soon with her birthday, weight and length. :)
Love to all!

NBA star stays at our house?!?!?! :)

So, yesterday/last night was a lot of fun at our house. We had a special guest.... Thurl Bailey (formerly of the Utah Jazz... 7 feet tall and all) stay at our house. Damon met him at a game earlier this year... my husband being the outgoing chatterbox that he is, just went up and started talking to him and they have been keeping in touch ever since. Funny though, I hadn't met him yet... and while I had seen pictures of them together, so I knew he wasn't a figment of his imagination, I must say I was still a little star struck when he showed up at my house. Growing up in Utah, you just know who Thurl Bailey is... I used to watch him play basketball and hear my dad talk about him when he was watching the games. So it was pretty neat to see this 7 foot tall guy get out of the car and come into our house. Guess What? Turns out he is just a normal, nice, fun to be around guy. We really enjoyed him and the kids thought it was great to have him here. Spencer was pretty impressed when we told him he was a basketball player... and Kennedi was asking "Big T" all night to come look at this and that. We had a nice dinnner with Heather & Doug and their family. And then we had to take picture, but at that time of night, Spencer was gone, but at least he was there... even if you can't see his face. All in all it was a great night! :)

Everyone has been asking to see my belly... so I thought I would give in and share these wonderfully big belly pics with you. We swam a lot and enjoyed relaxing. :) Although we wished we could have done more hiking, but since I am now 35 weeks pregnant, tired and HUGE... we figured it wasn't the best idea. But, we did go on a very fun and beautiful train ride through the Verde Canyon in Sedona. Spencer was in heaven since he loves woo woo's. Kennedi had a blast as well since she met another little girl who she played with most of the 4 hour ride. We really enjoyed it and decided that we will definetely go again, maybe in another season as it was fun and relaxing.

Kennedi is finally 7!!!

Well, Kennedi has been wanting to be 7 since the moment she turned 6 and now she finally is. The problem, she is already asking when she will be 8. Kids just want to grow up too darn fast. :) But Kennedi had a great birthday. It started on Saturday 6/21... she had her friends over for a water party outside. They played in the pool, squirted each other with squirt guns and played on the splash pad. She got lots of fun toys and loved her cupcake birthday cake.

Sunday rolled along and her dad came home from India. He wasn't supposed to be home until the next week, so it was a nice surprise that he made it home for her birthday.

Then finally the big day... she was finally 7 on Monday. We went as a family to Toys R Us where she spent some of her birthday money she had received. Then we went to lunch. We decided to go to the Rain Forest Cafe... mostly on mom's recommendation... but it wasn't the best idea. The kids were scared to death due to the fake rain storms and moving animals. Kennedi did eventually warm up to the place and thought it was fun, but Spencer spent the whole time nestled in Mom's arms, barely coming up for air or food. Then after lunch, we headed to Makutu's (a huge indoor playground with slides and all kinds of things to climb on). The kids had a blast and luckily since it was mid week... there wasn't a lot of people there. The night ended with a ice cream birthday cake and more presents. Kennedi truly got spoiled this year... but then I guess.... it's too much different from any other year. Damon and I had bought into a trial timeshare deal so we decided one of the trips we would do would be in wonderful sin city.

The Baker's and Michelle's mom and dad all headed to Las Vegas on June 6th. Jen, michelle sister , her hubby Stacy and neice & nephew Megan & Zack followed shortly after on June 7th.

We had a blast! We stayed in the Wyndam Grand Desert in a 3 bedroom condo. It was fun to be all together, but still have our own spaces to go if we wanted a little relax time. We spent a lot of time by the pool. We went to the Adventuredome at Circus Circus and rode rides. We walked around a bit and saw the sites and tried not to lose too much money in those darn slot machines. The kids made tie dye shirts. We tried to watch a movie by the pool... if it wasn't The Simpson's maybe we would have stayed longer. We out at A LOT of really good buffets. We got to see dolphins, white tigers and all kinds of fun animals. Spencer was really thrilled when we walked into the Bellagio Gardens and it was all decked out with his favorite thing in the world... TRAINS.

I really think everyone had a good time. Next time I am thinking somewhere tropical will be nice. So... mom, dad, jen, stacy... how about Mexico....? :)

Summer in Arizona!

WOW! It is so stinking hot here! Not that I didn't know it would be, but I didn't think about the heat and being 7 months pregnant. Not the best idea. LOL

Kennedi was telling me today that it was 130 degrees... and although it was ONLY 110 degrees... it sure felt like 130.

But all in all, we are having fun. We try to go to the pool often. We have access to the YMCA. We also got a little pool for the backyard and Grandma & Grandpa in Utah got the kids a fun splash pad which they have been playing with and are enjoying a lot. So, we do what we have to do to stay cool! We just keep remembering that the rest of the year is wonderful so we will surely make it through these 3 VERY HOT months. LOL

Remember you are all welcome to come to our "oven" anytime you want to visit! I love it most of the time. It is hard though to be at home and not be able to watch your kids when they are there with you. But as you can see, Spencer makes the most of it... he fell asleep while watching cars on a pile of laundry, found a blanket and a pillow and took a nap. The funny thing was... because his shirt and the blanket are the same color, I walked right past him, stressed as to where he was because he was quiet. All of you mom's out there understand, when your kids are quiet, that is when the worry sets in. While we were in Rocky Point, he got tired one day, plopped himself down right in front of the tent with his Gatorade wrapped in a paper towel and a piece of bread... What a blast we had! :)

At first I was actually quite unsure about going... I mean I haven't been camping since I was in Young Women's and my kids... never... but the one thing I knew I could count on was my trusty scout hubby who has camped his whole life... just never over the border. LOL

So we headed out at 5:30 a.m. on Friday morning and finally made it to our campsite at 10 a.m. It was a bit of a drive, but oh so worth it. The campsite isn't much to look at honestly, it's literally and RV Parking lot... but just a few parking spots away... a 2 minute walk is the beach! And what a site that was. It was beautiful!

We played on the beach all weekend. It was great. In the evenings, the tide goes out and the kids got to go explore the tide pools and find lots of cool crabs, shells and creatures. :) One of the highlights of the trip was taking a Ranger out for a drive... a souped up golf cart as I would explain it. We cruised the sand dunes and up crazy high cliffs. One so high that the view of the ocean from the top was literally breathtaking (don't worry Mom, we had the kids close to us the whole time)! :)

We at a local restaurant and had some of the absolute best chicken I have ever tasted. We will definetely eat there again!

Damon had a run in with a jet ski. He and some of the guys went out on jet skis for a bit and unfortunately, due to a high wave and the lack of being able to turn, one of them ran right into Damon. We aren't sure how, other than someone watching over him, but he hit the jet ski and sailed right over top of Damon, not even touching him, but completely killing the steering column of the jet ski. So, in the end all was good... except for the fact that Scott had to pay for the jet ski to get repaired, but at least, that can be fixed.

So in the end, Rocky Point will definetely be a family favorite mini vacation... and thank goodness we got back across the border ok! Our advice for people who don't want to get questions... buy sunscreens for your windows at walmart... the seemed to AMAZE the border patrol! LOL

Well to get you all up to date. We are now living in Arizona and LOVING the weather. While we miss our family in Utah a ton, we are having fun exploring our new surroundings. We are expecting our 3rd little one. We just found out that we are having another little girl... oh no, here comes more drama. :)
Kennedi is doing so well in school. She is able to read and do all kinds of math now. She loves her teachers and so far I have been happy with the school. She has several girls her age that live in the neighborhood and our house has become the hangout on several Saturdays... which is what I have always wanted so it is fun!
Spencer is a bundle of energy. He just turned 2 in March. I can't believe how much of a little man he is. He is talking up a storm. His first word in the morning is always CEREAL. He is definetely a growing little guy and loves his food. He has also developed a love of yellow bannana peppers. Damon says I should be happy about that since he also loves Promite (YUCK!)... because now he loves something strange that each of us likes.
Until next time! The Bakers! Damon, Michelle, Kennedi, Spencer, and the newest Baker... Sydney Grace.

Hi there. We are the USA Bakers. While I know that there are probably millions of USA Bakers, I use that to distinguish us due to the majority of the Bakers directly related to us being in Australia.

This actually the second attempt at this blog. I tried once before with no luck. But due to the dilligent prodding of my best friend Mrs. Heather... I figured I would give it another shot. So here we are. We will now be blogging at usabakers.blogspot.com.
